When Time Ran Out was released in 1980.
It was produced by Lost In Space creator Irwin Allen (in fact it was last theatrical film that he produced) and directed by James Goldstone.
It has a star-studded that included Paul Newman, William Holden, Edward Albert, Red Buttons, Burgess Meredith, Ernest Borgnine, Pat Morita, Allen's wife Sheila which of course isn't unusual in Allen's movies and two lovelies Jacqueline Bisset and Barbara Carrera. For Newman and Holden this was the second and final time they had appeared
The title does not make it obvious what this movie is about.
The movie is about a volcano erupting and the people nearby have to leave the area before the volcano kills them hence the title.
I have seen other Irwin Allen movies but one that comes to mind in similarity to When Time Ran Out is that of The Poseidon Adventure,
Aspects between When Time Ran Out & The Poseidon Adventure that I remember having similarities is that of a select group of people decide that the best way to survive from the natural disaster was by moving about while others refused to go with them, a decision that would prove deadly to them, and the select group of people having to cross a plank/bridge but all of them made it across.
As a Doctor Who fan the one Doctor Who episode that came to mind when watching When Time Ran Out is that of The Fires of Pompeii as that was also about a volcano erupting.
There is an irony with me bringing up Doctor Who here in that Doctor Who is a time travel series whereas When Time Ran Out despite its name is not about time travel (notwithstanding the technicality that experiencing normal time is still a form of time travel).
I might sound bias as a Doctor Who fan but I prefer the Doctor Who episode over When Time Ran Out.
The Doctor Who episode enable me to have empathy with the people in it in fleeing with their lives from the volcano an empathy that is extremely lacking with the When Time Ran Out characters.
