Just as I am waiting to see Doctor Who: The Snowmen, I recently got to see the similarly titled movie The Abominable Snowman:

It can be seen on Youtube:

The Abominable Snowman released in 1957 was written by Quatermass creator Nigel Kneale based on his earlier 1955 TV play The Creature (which itself no longer exists).
The Abominable Snowman was directed by Val Guest and this was not the first time that he directed a film adaption of a Nigel Kneale’s TV scripted-production as he previously directed the two Quatermass movies based on the first two Quatermass TV serials.
The Abominable Snowman featured Peter Cushing as Dr John Rollason reprising the character he earlier played in The Creature and he appeared in another Nigel Kneale-scripted TV production in the 1954 TV play version of Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Cushing was the not the only actor from The Creature to reprise his character for The Abominable Snowman with the other actors being Arnold Marlé and Wolfe Morris. Perhaps not coincidentally Morris later appeared in the first Doctor Who in the similarly named The Abominable Snowmen about exactly the same subject with Morris basically playing a similar character. The Doctor Who tale starred Second Doctor Patrick Troughton. This is another example that Cushing has more in common with Troughton rather than First Doctor William Hartnell and Cushing had played an alternative version of the First Doctor in the two Doctor Who movies based on the first two Hartnell Dalek TV serials.
As for The Abominable Snowman itself I was not really impress by it as it did not have enough suspense to make it thrilling for me.
